١ قَبْلَ أَيَّامٍ كَثِيرَةٍ جِدًّا، كَانَ هُنَاكَ رَجُلٌ
Many days ago, there was a man.
٢ وَكَانَ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ يَسْكُنُ فِي قَرْيَةٍ
And this man lived in a village.
٣ وَكَانَ اسْمُ هَذَا الرَّجُلِ آزَرَ
And this man's name was Azar.
٤ وَكَانَ آزَرُ مُشْرِكًا
And Azar was a polytheist.
٥ وَكَانَ مَعَ آزَرَ نَاسٌ كَثِيرُونَ
And with Azar were many people.
٦ وَكَانَ هَؤُلَاءِ النَّاسُ مُشْرِكِينَ أَيْضًا
And these people were polytheists too.
٧ وَكَانَ آزَرُ يَسْكُنُ مَعَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ فِي هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ
And Azar lived with the polytheists in this village.
٨ وَكَانَ فِي هَذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ أَصْنَامٌ كَثِيرَةٌ جِدًّا
And in this village there were very many idols.
٩ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَعْبُدُونَ هَذِهِ الْأَصْنَامَ
And the people worshipped these idols.
١٠ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَسْجُدُونَ لَهَا
And the people prostrated to them.
١١ وَكَانَ آزَرُ يَعْبُدُ الْأَصْنَامَ أَيْضًا وَكَانَ آزَرُ يَسْجُدُ لَهَا أَيْضًا
And Azar worshipped the idols too, and Azar prostrated to them too.
١٢ صَنَمٌ هُنَا، وَصَنَمٌ هُنَاكَ. أَصْنَامٌ كَثِيرَةٌ جِدًّا
An idol here, and an idol there. Very many idols.
١٣ لِمَاذَا يَعْبُدُونَ الْأَصْنَامَ؟ الْعِبَادَةُ لِلَّهِ فَقَطْ
Why do they worship the idols? Worship is for Allah alone.
١ وَكَانَ لِآزَرَ وَلَدٌ
And Azar had a son.
٢ وَكَانَ اسْمُ هَذَا الْوَلَدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ
And this boy's name was Ibrahim.
٣ وَكَانَ آزَرُ أَبَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ
And Azar was Ibrahim's father.
٤ وَكَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَسْكُنُ مَعَ أَبِيهِ فِي الْقَرْيَةِ
And Ibrahim lived with his father in the village.
٥ وَكَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَرَى النَّاسَ يَسْجُدُونَ لِلْأَصْنَامِ
And Ibrahim saw the people prostrating to the idols.
٦ وَكَانَ يَرَى النَّاسَ يَعْبُدُونَ الْحِجَارَةَ
And he saw the people worshipping the stones.
٧ وَكَانَ يَرَى ذَلِكَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ
And he saw that every day.
٨ وَكَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَعْرِفُ أَنَّ تِلْكَ الْعِبَادَةَ سَيِّئَةٌ
And Ibrahim knew that this worship was bad.
٩ وَكَانَ يَعْرِفُ أَنَّ الْأَصْنَامَ حِجَارَةٌ فَقَطْ
And he knew the idols were only stones.
١٠ وَكَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَقُولُ فِي نَفْسِهِ: لِمَاذَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلْأَصْنَامِ؟
And Ibrahim said to himself: Why do they prostrate to the idols?
١١ هُمْ يَعْبُدُونَ الْحِجَارَةَ — وَالْحِجَارَةُ لَا تَنْفَعُ شَيْئًا
They worship the stones — but the stones are of no benefit at all.
١٢ وَمَا كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ
And Ibrahim was not one of the polytheists.
١٣ بَلْ كَانَ عَلَى دِينٍ آخَرَ
Rather, he followed another religion.
١٤ وَكَانَ رَبُّهُ اللَّهَ
And his Lord was Allah.
١٥ وَلَمْ يَعْبُدْ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْأَصْنَامَ
And Ibrahim did not worship the idols.
١٦ وَلَنْ يَتْرُكَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ النَّاسَ فِي الشِّرْكِ
And Ibrahim will not abandon the people to polytheism.
١ قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى:
قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ
لَا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ
وَلَا أَنْتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ
وَلَا أَنَا عَابِدٌ مَا عَبَدْتُمْ
وَلَا أَنْتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ
لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ
Allah the Most High said: "Say, 'O disbelievers, I do not worship what you worship, nor do you worship what I worship, nor will I worship what you worship, nor will you worship what I worship. For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.'"
٢ إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَلَى التَّوْحِيدِ، وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى الْكُفْرِ
Ibrahim follows monotheism, and the polytheists follow disbelief.
٣ هُوَ يَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ، وَهُمْ يَعْبُدُونَ الْحِجَارَةَ
He worships Allah, and they worship the stones.
٤ لَيْسَ الصَّنَمُ إِلَهًا — هُوَ حَجَرٌ فَقَطْ
The idol is not a god — it is only a stone.
٥ وَكَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَعْرِفُ أَنَّ رَبَّهُ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ
And Ibrahim knew his Lord was Allah alone.
٦ وَكَانَ يَعْرِفُ أَنَّ الْعِبَادَةَ لِلَّهِ فَقَطْ
And he knew that worship is for Allah only.
٧ وَتَرَكَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الشِّرْكَ — وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ دِينَ التَّوْحِيدِ
And Ibrahim abandoned polytheism — but did not abandon the religion of monotheism.
٨ كَانَ يَنْصَحُ النَّاسَ وَيَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ
He used to advise the people and invite them to Allah.
٩ نَحْنُ الْـمُسْلِمُونَ نَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ وَحْدَهُ
We, the Muslims, worship Allah alone.
١٠ رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ، وَدِينُنَا التَّوْحِيدُ
Our Lord is Allah, and our religion is monotheism.
١١ وَأَنْتَ يَا طَالِبَ الْعِلْمِ — هَلْ أَنْتَ مِثْلُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ؟
And you, O seeker of knowledge — are you like Ibrahim?
١٢ أَنَا مُسْلِمٌ، وَأَنْتَ مُسْلِمٌ، وَأَنْتُمُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ عَلَى دِينِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ — إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
I am a Muslim, you are a Muslim, and you are all Muslims upon the religion of Ibrahim — if Allah wills.
١٣ وَأَنْتَ يَا طَالِبَ الْعِلْمِ — دِينُكَ التَّوْحِيدُ، وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ
And you, O seeker of knowledge — your religion is monotheism, and your Lord is Allah.
١٤ فَاعْبُدْهُ وَحْدَهُ، وَلَا تَتْرُكْ دِينَكَ أَبَدًا
So worship Him alone, and never abandon your religion.
